๐ฒForestry
You plant a sapling, it takes time to come up, and felling always gives you back exactly one sapling, sometimes of a higher species.
The number of trees you own therefore never moves on its own. What limits production is growth time.
๐ฑ The cycle
- Plant a sapling on a forestry soil that accepts the species.
- The tree takes 4 hours to grow. Same duration for every species, no soil bonus.
- At maturity, two surprises are possible: the tree comes up one rank higher, or it mutates.
- Fell it with one axe swing on the trunk. You get bark, foliage and a sapling.
The only sapling sold at the shop is the Ash sapling, at $75,000. Everything else comes from evolution.
๐ช The evolution ladder
Eight species, from rank 1 to rank 8. Every felling has a chance to return the next rank's sapling.
| Rank | Species | Rarity | Upgrade chance on felling |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ash | Common | 10 % |
| 2 | Cedar | Common | 10 % |
| 3 | Maple | Uncommon | 10 % |
| 4 | Walnut | Uncommon | 10 % |
| 5 | Rain Tree | Rare | 10 % |
| 6 | Teak | Rare | 5 % |
| 7 | Mahogany | Epic | 5 % |
| 8 | Rosewood | Epic | Top of the ladder |
Careful: the upgrade on felling only works if your soil already accepts the higher rank. A mahogany planted in Sylvan soil will never return a rosewood sapling.
There is a second upgrade chance, at maturity this time, and it depends entirely on the soil: from 2 % on plain dirt to 20 % on primordial soil. See Soils and composter.
๐ End species
Two species live off the ladder: no evolution will ever produce them.
| Species | Rarity | Minimum soil | Only source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Voidwood | Legendary | Ancient soil | End mine, 1 harvest in 500 |
| Astral Wood | Mythic | Primordial soil | End mine, 1 harvest in 1,500 |
โจ Special trees
An Astral Wood planted on primordial soil can mutate at maturity into a special tree. The base chance is 1 in 200, divided by the soil's mutation factor: on primordial soil (factor ร3), that works out to 1 in 67.
When the mutation fires, the species is drawn from this pool:
| Special tree | Pool share | Loot on felling |
|---|---|---|
| Onyx Tree | 50 % | 3 onyx shards, plus a 1 in 3 chance of an onyx fragment |
| Ruby Tree | 33 % | 3 ruby fragments, plus a 1 in 4 chance of a ruby ingot |
| Key Tree | 17 % | 1 random key |
The key tree roll: 50 % Common, 25 % Farm, 16 % Rare, 8 % Epic, 1 % Legendary.
Special trees give no bark, and they never gain a rank: they stay what they are.
๐ Mutations
At maturity, a tree can mutate. Mutations multiply the entire felling loot (bark, special loot), but never the sapling returned. The stock stays stable no matter what.
The roll goes from rarest to most common and stops at the first success. The chances below are for plain dirt; they are divided by the soil's mutation factor.
| Mutation | Base chance | Multiplier | On primordial soil |
|---|---|---|---|
| ๐ Rainbow | 1 in 1,400 | ร10 | 1 in 467 |
| ๐ Ancient | 1 in 280 | ร5 | 1 in 93 |
| ๐ก Golden | 1 in 60 | ร3 | 1 in 20 |
| ๐ข Lush | 1 in 14 | ร2 | 1 in 5 |
In practice, on plain dirt about 9 trees in 10 come up unmutated. On primordial soil, a quarter of trees mutate.
๐ช What a felling gives
- Bark: 1 to 3 per tree, whatever the species, multiplied by the mutation. It is the bark's sell price that separates species, not the amount.
- All the foliage: around 65 leaves per tree. That is the composter fuel.
- One sapling, never zero, never two.
- A chance at onyx: 1 in 1,500 below Lumberjack level 14, 1 in 600 from 14, 1 in 350 from 22. Those odds are halved on uncommon wood, quartered on rare and divided by 8 on epic.
Felling does not give logs: a tree's loot is bark, foliage and the sapling.
๐ณ The public forest (/combat)
In the public forest you do not fell, you strip. One axe swing on a trunk:
- gives 1 to 3 bark of that species;
- leaves the trunk standing, bare;
- schedules the bark to grow back 5 to 8 minutes later.
XP there is on the ore scale (1 to 12 depending on rarity), not the tree scale, because the resource renews itself.
