🪴Soils and composter

The soil under a sapling decides nearly everything: the highest rarity you can plant, the upgrade chance at maturity, and how often trees mutate.

The 5 soils

SoilRarityMax plantable rankUpgrade at growthMutation factor
Dirt (or grass)Common1 (Ash)2 %×1
HumusUncommon3 (Maple)5 %×1.25
Sylvan soilRare5 (Rain Tree)9 %×1.6
Ancient soilEpic7 (Mahogany)14 %×2.2
Primordial soilLegendary8 (Rosewood) and special trees20 %×3

End species have their own requirements, independent of rank: Voidwood needs ancient soil at minimum, Astral Wood needs primordial soil. Special trees only take root on primordial soil.

💡 The mutation factor does more than multiply mutations: it also raises the chance that a mature astral turns into a special tree.

♻️ The composter

The composter turns foliage and bark into compost points, the only currency that buys soils. It costs $75,000 at the shop, or comes at level 14 of the Lumberjack job. Right click to open it.

Foliage supplies most of the compost. A tree gives around sixty leaves for only 1 to 3 bark. Bark sells well at the shop, so composting it comes at a cost.

Sylvan soil2,200$90,0002
Ancient soil7,500$450,0001
Primordial soil25,000$2,250,0001

The composter always consumes your least dense material first: it will burn ash leaves long before it touches an astral bark.

To put the gap in perspective: primordial soil costs 25,000 points, which is roughly 1,670 astral leaves, or 417 astral barks, or 25,000 ash leaves. It is the last progression step of forestry.

The Lumberjack job short-circuits part of the road: it hands out 16 humus, 6 sylvan soils, 5 ancient soils and 1 primordial soil at level 22.
